Polystandard lose the poly vote
TICA Maine
Coon breed section members have overwhelmingly voted against accepting
the Maine coon poly to championship status. I personally feel that
at this point in time this is a sensible decision by TICA members.
Congratulations ...
Handaros would really like
to congratulate our very good friends, Julie Chadwick & Sheila Curtis on
Lionmaine Buffalo Soldier of Indys aka Basher gaining his SUPREME at the
Gateshead TICA show last week. It was especially poignant to us
all that this happened at this particular show as it was here that
Sheila discovered last year that we had tragically lost our eldest son
the evening before.
Basher is a super cat with a
super breeder and owner, so pleased for everybody ;)
Response
to Polytraks/Polystandard's Paws For Thought
In March 2008 Polytrak owned
by Deb Brown sent out a newsletter titled “Paws For Thought”. It is
seemingly set up as some sort of arena of factual information, however
it contains a number of discrepancies and lies about me … surprise
surprise! For those few who may have read it I would like to point out
the following:
Fact – MCPI is a yahoo chat group, whilst
it is true that I set up the group it is not true to say I was ever the
sole owner. There were until my resignation this month three owners and
three moderators. This has been pointed out on more than one occasion in
the past, so why lie?
Fact There has never been an acting
President or a Board of Directors on MCPI, why would anyone have such a
thing for a chat group? There was however such a structure with MCPolys
the Presidency held by Deb Brown of Polytrak/ Polystandard. Perhaps the
Polytrak staff has got confused. MCPI has always been just a chat group
and never a formal organisation. There were no positions and therefore,
no positions to eliminate.
Fact: I did not begin removing members from
the MCPI chat group that were actively supporting championship. Deb
Brown was given a clear warning about her behaviour on list from one of
the other moderators and she chose to ignore it. Two other members then
decided to forward posts from her and they too were removed from the
list. One other was moderated. This had nothing to do with their beliefs
but everything to do with their behaviour. Further the list was told
about this it is yet another lie to say they were not. One member was
removed at their own request by another owner/moderator.
Fact: Considering that Polytrak is some
sort of data collecting service I am amazed at their lack of attention
to detail the post to which they refer was the 6th April not the 5th as
stated. In that post I did indeed say “I personally do not think
the time is right to go forward with recognition, I believe that we will
do our polys a disservice to go ahead now as I do not believe we have
the knowledge or cohesiveness at this point in time. However, I do wish
Polystandard all the very best in their endeavours.” It would seem to me
that the article in Polytraks newsletter has proved me right, we do not
have the cohesiveness to go ahead with championship status, when others
clearly want to spend time attempting to decimate the character of
another with lies and spin.
Now as to my comment about knowledge; only recently we were all rather
shocked to discover that one of our biggest arguments was that 40% of
the Maine Coons were polydactyl was infact a mere misquote with no
substance. Further, we were told by many long term breeders that our
belief that it was always intended to have the polys accepted was also
not correct and that other than Rod Ljosted no other advocate could be
named. How many of us knew this until others forwarded mail to another
forum educating us on what we all thought we knew. We were wrong, is
there anything else we have got wrong too?
Fact: The comment and I quote "Ms. King
told her members; the group will continue without its former missions",
is an absolute lie. I have never made a post that said that ever. MCPI
has no missions it is a chat group that happens to have a website.
I actually find the fact that Polytrak staff believe that my opinion is
so influential over others insulting to the intelligence of the members
of MCPI.
Incidentally, while we are talking about sole ownerships and data,
Polytrak is owned by Deborah Brown of Electronic Business Systems of
Ontario. Furthermore its subsidary group Polystandard has Ms Brown
as its sole owner .. pot kettle springs to mind here with the exception
that I have never been nor wanted to be the sole owner of anything.
I am deeply saddened that a community that has set itself up as some
sort of scientific arena has reduced itself to lies and spin. It makes
me wonder what else they may be exaggerating? If these people can use
lies and manipulation of the facts to suit their purposes this begs the
question what might they be doing to the data they are collecting from
people?
As an aside I resigned from MCPI recently because I felt my opinions
were at odds with the group, the majority of whom want recognition now
for the poly, including the other two list owners who are dear friends
of mine. Thank you to everyone who sent me messages of support it
was very kind :)
